10 Facades in Downtown Batesville

-- — Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman announced that the city of Batesville is receiving a $226,547 Main Street Revitalization Grant. The Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs administer the grants, which are funded through the federal Community Development Block Grant program.

The Main Street Revitalization Grant program encourages Hoosier communities with eligible populations to focus on long-term community development within the downtown area.

“A thriving downtown business district is the heart of any rural community,” Skillman said. “By focusing on creating a better quality of life for residents, Batesville is also shaping a stronger local economy.”

The grant will fund facade renovations for 10 commercial properties in the Central Batesville Historic District. Some highlights of these projects include masonry restoration, storefront replacement, painting, canopy renovations and exterior lighting. The facade improvement project was identified as a priority for the city in the 2008 Batesville Comprehensive Plan Update and the 2008 Batesville Downtown Strategic Development Plan
